Greedo Cheese

Last night was a Mellman Group poker night, and I played poker the best way I know how: playing with someone else's money. I spotted a coworker the $20 buy-in fee and played some of her hands while she finished up work. She was a newbie at poker, so I helped her learn the game; in fact, she finished the night 75 cents up. (I didn't play myself since I had to leave early for West Wing night--and because I don't like losing money.)

Some links if you're bored at work:

Copying from the Star Wars cookbook, McSweeny's posted a list of "Names of Cheeses Inspired by Star Wars Characters." (Thanks to Jen for the link.)

Also for your amusement:Natalie Imbruglia mime (Disclaimer: sexual innuendo included.)

More seriously: Food and Friends is sponsoring Dining Out For Life tonight. Go out to dinner tonight at a participating restaurant and your money will go toward a good cause.

Thanks for the heads up on the Food and Friends thing. Just sent the link out to a bunch of people. Hopefully, someone will have time to go.

No problem. I ate lunch (Cafe La Ruche) and dinner (Sala Thai) at participating restaurants. Did you get a chance to "dine out for life?"

Tried to go to the one place they had listed in Fairfax, but didn't make reservations ahead of time. Stood around in a crowd for about 10 minutes trying to figure out who was in charge and see how long the wait would be, but no one would talk to us... So we ended up leaving. Let me know if you find out about other events. Maybe I'll plan ahead next time... ;)

Someone else I knew already had plans to go to the Cheesecake Factory, so she was happy to find out it was a participating restaurant. -j.

That's too bad...I just found out the night before and got lucky on the planning. Cold Stone didn't participate, so none of my ice cream money went to a good cause. (Well, unless you consider keeping Cold Stone open a good cause, which is certainly plausible.)

Well, there's always next time.
